I started with a digital photograph. I cropped it to the ratio 3:4 and divided it into 12 squares. I made 4 versions of the picture: desaturated and then 3 duotones, CMY. I did these using gradient map.
Then I made a separate file with a 9x9 grid and placed the squares on the grid so I had 12 sets of 5-square layouts. The pictures were in the DDR pad format: up, down, left, right with the original in the center. I printed them out, cut them out, and sewed them into cubes. Some of the cubes have the image facing inwards and some have the image facing outwards; I did this in a checkerboard pattern.
I've been debating over whether I should attach the cubes together permanently or leave them apart and thinking about how to present them. So far I've just put them together in different configurations and photographed said configurations.
The assignment is to take a photograph and make three drastically different works of art out of it. This is my first idea. Another idea I had was to make it into a flash animation...but I really don't know.
nice work! maybe it's a nice idea to print the photo on textile and make some sort of dress from it as a second work? Or frame it as one would with a painting?

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
